Many leaders still struggle with the concept of reflection. The reasons are varied, but would appear that it is due in part through some form of a guilt complex. The guilt complex that says that leaders must be energetic, lead by example and always producing.
The beauty behind reflection is that it allows leaders those quiet moments to disengage themselves from the day to day, operational actions and allows for true self-contemplation on results, behaviours and actions. There truly is a reward for reflection.
If reflection is done honestly, it can create long lasting benefits. Analyse how you lead, give yourself an honest assessment and then look forward for your future actions. If the time spent reflecting is ensures your greater effectiveness in the future, then it has been productive time.
